It is commonly believed that the first tufted leather comfortable couch was originally commissioned in the 18th century by the Fourth Earl of Chesterfield, namely Philip Dormer Stanhope. Most distinctively these sofas have thickly padded arms, seats and back. Typically of varying natural colors of a high quality grain of leather with backs being deeply tufted with large buttons.


The Chesterfield was a mark of class and stature back in the old days and was furniture previously reserved for the upscale market.


Throughout the years, Chesterfield sofas have graced the palaces of royalty, prominent business offices, hotels, restaurants, gentleman's clubs and luxurious private homes.


Successfully exported trough the colonies of the British Empire by the officials of the Royal Army it soon became a worldwide peerless emblem of British style.

What was once a status symbol of the elite is now a much sought-after addition to the modern home or business.
